De-Warenne Academy school day

Hello everybody, It's been quite some time since I posted, but as I explained in my last post in February I have been working away on exhibition pieces since January and was only allowed to post a couple of pieces to demonstrate the kind of works you will get to see during my Solo show at Warwick studios this coming November.

I have been working frantically to get 12 brand new originals and study sketches done for the show and so far have completed 8 originals in 6 months....I'm currently working in my 9th but hoping by the end of July i'll have both the 9th and 10th finished.

July was also the month I got to spend the day with the wonderful kids at De-Warenne Academy School.
I was approached by the magazine, Pisces, that provide schools with art supplies, to see if I would be interested to be a prize for a competition they were going to run. The top prize was to win little old me for the day teaching them all things art.

I had such a wonderful day teaching the same class for the entire school day lots of different techniques in both drawing and painting and I was blown away by the standard of the students.

Now as i have mentioned I'm working towards the show in November and we have already started on the promotional aspect of the show firstly by getting my promo poster sorted,  I worked  with Digital artist Luke Bailey to produce a slick professional looking poster, so a big thank you to Luke.

I also spent the day yesterday filming with film maker Sam Hudson, who is currently editing my first promo video which will reveal another one of the pieces for show as well as an insight into my art process and more importantly, my family. I realise that most of you may have seen small glimpses into my personal family life but this video will reveal more about me as a husband and father but don't worry there will be lots of art video footage in there too.

Anyway i'd just like to say thank you for your patience with me especially the clients waiting for there commissions and all pieces will be revealed soon.....Promise.

Gobstoppers and Candy Canes & Steven Gerrard Portrait

A few weeks ago I completed this latest original, and as you can see I decided to use sweets for the composition. After recently purchasing some ice cream sundae glasses I really wanted to include one of them in a painting, I played around with a few compositions until I eventually settled on this one as I thought it had great balance.

This piece was destined for Warwick Studios Gallery and once again they did an incredible job by selling it within a couple of days, I have also just completed a commission of Hotshots 2 for Warwick gallery.

I have also planned to do another of the sport series and after finding a really great model I'm really excited to get started I have booked a photo shoot for reference shots this Thursday so I'm hoping for some great images then I can decide on what size panel with suit the composition best but all that will be guaranteed is that it will be BIG!

I have also just finished the Liverpool FC commemorative painting to celebrate England and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrards 100 caps with England and 600 appearances with Liverpool.

I'll be meeting with Steven sometime in August If we can work around a date for both our schedules as he will be signing the piece, I've also been told that there are plans to do some limited edition prints that will be sold for the Christie Charity, I'm still unsure If the original will be up for auction but I will keep you all posted.

Must do better

Once again I must apologies for the lateness of this Blog. I do try and keep my Facebook followers up to date with all new works and information and post frequently on my page and If you haven't already then please follow the link on the right of the page and give it a "Like".

But with  my blog  I like to have a more in-depth feel to them, so can only really post when I have a spare hour In my day, which at the moment is becoming more and more rare the busier I get. But I know I must do better!!

Firstly I'd like to announce that I will be working with and represented by Cloud galleries, Cloud have three galleries that they manage based in Chester, Brighton and Worthing and I will be showing in all three in the near future. Damian the Gallery director approached me recently wanting to work with and show my work and of course I was more than happy to do so. I have created two brand new originals for my launch with them as well as providing them with three older pieces from 2012

I have also just completed my 3rd of the sports series,  again using the sport of Boxing as the main inspiration. This piece was so much fun to paint and was one of my biggest ever paintings, and once again Sold within days of me finishing it so a BIG thank you to David at Warwick Studios Gallery

I have agreed that Warwick Studios will be showing the majority of  these new sports series of paintings as well as my more known still life works, so watch out for more to come and not just in the sport of boxing as I will be creating a number of sport related paintings over the coming months.

I am also currently in the process of creating a brand new sweets original for Warwick Studios that should be completed next week, so keep a look out for it.

Trio of Choc

Here is the latest painting to come off the easel, even tho this was completed a few weeks ago i had to keep quiet from posting it on line as this was a commission for the clients wife's 40th birthday.

The client had already selected a composition he was happy with from a number of photos that i had taken as reference, he wanted three specific chocolate bars as they were his wife's favourite ones. And so i had to start the painting and fast, as it was for a specific date so i needed to paint it and get it framed for late October and thankfully i managed to do it all in time.

I started the painting with the wrong mind set thinking as it was one of my smaller sizes at 18" x 18" it shouldn't take to many hours to complete, but how wrong i was i started applying the colours of the drifter and was happy but then came the lettering and its then i started to realise i needed to change the way i was thinking and slow down to capture the correct colours shapes and sizes if i wanted this painting to work.

I was so pleased that the Mars wrapper had a reflection in the wrapper other wise potentially the black would have looked a bit flat but this also caused me a slightly different problem as usually i paint the backgrounds with mixes of blacks and greys and worried that if i used these typical colours the Mars bar could be lost and so a mix of ultramarine blues whites and burnt umber created a different background that allowed the mars to hold its own in the image.

Thankfully she loved her birthday gift and cried when she received it from her husband, and she was kind enough to post on my Facebook time line with the following "Wow what an amazing 40th pressie I love love love it .... Thank-you so much ... I had a few tears when I opened it .....it's the best pressie anyone could wish for"

Its lovely comments like this that just make painting all the more special to me

Sweet And Swirly

"Sweet and Swirly"
24" x 24"
Oil on wooden panel
SOLD

Here is the latest painting titled "Sweet and Swirly"I decided to go for a slightly smaller panel as I thought it would allow me to paint a little faster than I normally do but i completely underestimated how difficult and complex it was going to be to paint the plastic wrapping, but a little patience and perseverance I feel I managed to achieve a good effect.

Here Is a promotional poster for "Sweet and Swirly" created by my gallery Warwick Studios.

We are getting ready for a small showing of my works at the end of the year There is five confirmed paintings so far and I hope to produce at least another five,  I'll be varying the sizes also which will obviously affect the ranges In price so If the bigger paintings are a little out of your price range you could still own a quality piece of original art work.

Works Available at Warwick Studios - Tel :- 01926 413529
