Incognito

Here is the latest painting to come off the easel, and i must admit i really struggled with this piece, firstly i decided to go large which is always a challenge, secondly i decided to paint a white background which is unlike my typical darker background. and thirdly the angles of the crayons created me some major problems in the initial sketch. I also found it difficult with the subject matter because although the crayons were very colourful they were also very Matt in colour with no real shine or depth, and like you all know i LOVE my reflections!

The White background became a real problem also, i initially started the painting by using my trusty Frog tape to tape off the crayons keeping the straight edges and allowing me to put down the initial white ground colour I then built this up over 3 layers or so and then started to progress onto the crayons. each crayon took shape slowly but surly and the image began to emerge.

I decided to title the painting Incognito, the reason.......if you look closely i actually removed a green crayon from it 's original paper wrapper and replaced it with an Orange wrapper. the reason i did this  was to show that no matter what you do to disguise yourself, your true colours will always show. And i wanted to title it Incognito because the description of this lovely word really summed up what i wanted to show in this fun but meaningful painting the description read "having one's identity concealed, as under an assumed name, especially to avoid notice or formal attentions"

Whats more I got a call from the gallery this afternoon with some AMAZING news, the painting with the paint still wet had sold and i cant say how thrilled i was. we also discussed a possible run of limited edition prints on this image as well as a possible future show.
